The Goote Project shapes a currency graphic concept that was born from reading two novels of dystopian fiction: We (Yevgueni Zamyatin, 1921) and 1984 (George Orwell, 1948).
In 2036 the Goote is the official currency of Oceania, one of three super-states vying for dominance of the planet Earth very punished by pollution and war. The state is governed by a totalitarian regime under the control of the omnipresent Well-Doer who imposes Oceania ideology: Based on the cult of the machines, science and application
of perfect mathematics.
The homogeneous population, about 45 million, is impersonal and lacks of any individual freedom for the sake of happiness. Each person is designated by numbers (women with a vowel and even number, men with a consonant and odd number)living and working with pride for the State to which they belong, like the small piece of a huge perfect machine. For that to happen properly, they are supervised at all times through glass architecture, surveillance devices which also disseminate misinformation, and the executioner arm of the Well-Doer: The guardians, who are licensed to stop and “vaporize” anyone who threatens the integrity of Oceania.
But probably the most effective control methods are fear and hatred generated by propaganda against the enemy States, and the Newspeak: The official language of Oceania, an optimist artificial evolution of English that ignores certain words and creates new ones to eliminate its concept and thus eradicate the free thought. To avoid conflicts between numbers, personal relationships, and sex also are controlled and allocated efficiently, by State permission.
Each Goote (Good-Note) is issued and regulated by the Goote Department, part of Miniplenty (Ministry of Plenty), and serves to evenly distribute each number that works in Oceania, the goods and services necessary to develop their role successfully.
